Amaravati Gets Legal Status as Capital: Parliament Passes Historic Bill

Amaravati, April 2: In a landmark development, the Andhra Pradesh capital Amaravati has received legal status through a bill passed in Parliament, marking a significant milestone in the state’s political and administrative history.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed happiness over the development, calling it a victory of people’s determination and a tribute to the sacrifices made by thousands of farmers.
“Historic Victory for People’s Will”
Addressing farmers at Uddandarayunipalem, the foundation site of the capital, the Chief Minister said the legislation ensures a permanent identity for Andhra Pradesh.

He emphasized that Amaravati stands as a symbol of Telugu pride and self-respect, highlighting that nearly 29,000 farmers voluntarily contributed around 33,000 acres of land for the capital region.
Acknowledgment to National Leadership
The Chief Minister extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with political parties across the country, for supporting the bill in Parliament.
He recalled that sacred soil and water brought during the foundation ceremony added cultural and spiritual significance to Amaravati’s development vision.
Political Reactions and Criticism
Criticizing the opposition, particularly YSR Congress Party, the Chief Minister alleged that their absence during key discussions and walkout in Parliament reflected a lack of commitment to the state’s future.
He urged people to reject parties that opposed Amaravati, stating that attempts to undermine the capital have been decisively countered by public support.
Commitment to World-Class Capital
Reaffirming the government’s vision, Naidu stated that Amaravati would be developed into a world-class city by adopting global standards and infrastructure models.
He also assured balanced regional development across Andhra Pradesh while positioning Amaravati as the administrative and economic hub.
Spiritual Observances Mark the Occasion
Following the announcement, the Chief Minister, along with his family and leaders, participated in Deepa Harathi and special rituals at the foundation site. Vedic scholars conducted prayers, and leaders paid respects to the capital land, marking the occasion with cultural and spiritual significance.

A Turning Point for Andhra Pradesh
The passage of the Amaravati bill is being seen as a defining moment, ending years of uncertainty over the state’s capital. With legal backing now secured, the focus is expected to shift towards accelerated infrastructure development and investment attraction.
