🚧 A Mega Project to Transform Bengaluru: “Bengaluru Business Corridor” Approved! 🚀
Bengaluru, India’s Silicon Valley, is all set for a major infrastructural transformation! The Karnataka Cabinet has given the green light to the long-awaited Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project — now rebranded as the “Bengaluru Business Corridor.” This ambitious initiative aims to ease the city’s crippling traffic woes and accelerate business growth, with a target completion period of just two years and an estimated cost of ₹10,000 crore.
🏗️ A Game-Changer for Bengaluru’s Traffic & Economy
Announcing the project, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar called it a “historic decision” designed to reduce traffic congestion in Bengaluru by nearly 40%. The 117 km long corridor will connect key highways and industrial zones, allowing through-traffic to bypass the city center — a move expected to significantly improve commute times and air quality.
“Bengaluru is choked with traffic. We want to reduce congestion. Once completed, this corridor will decongest the city and open new avenues for business,” — D.K. Shivakumar, Deputy CM.
🌆 Highlights of the “Bengaluru Business Corridor” Project
- Total Length: 117 km
- Estimated Cost: ₹10,000 crore
- Implementation Agency: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA)
- Completion Target: 2 years
- Expected Traffic Reduction: 40%
- Families Affected: Approx. 1,900
The project is expected to not only address traffic congestion but also spur commercial and industrial development along its stretch, positioning Bengaluru as a major investment and logistics hub for South India.
💰 New Land Compensation Policy – Five Flexible Options
Land acquisition has been one of the toughest challenges in past infrastructure projects. To overcome this, the government has announced a new, inclusive compensation package offering five flexible options for landowners and landless families:
- Cash compensation higher than market value.
- Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).
- Additional Floor Area Ratio (FAR) on remaining land.
- Allotment of plots in developed layouts.
- Mixed options combining land and cash benefits.
Officials added that the project cost was brought down from ₹27,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore as many farmers preferred land-based compensation over cash. The government also stated that no land de-notification would occur under any circumstances. If landowners refuse to part with land, compensation will be deposited in court and the project will proceed.
🌍 Towards a Smarter, Faster, and Greener Bengaluru
The Bengaluru Business Corridor is envisioned not merely as a road project, but as a strategic business ecosystem. Once completed, it is expected to:
- Reduce intra-city traffic congestion by 40%.
- Improve logistics connectivity between highways and industrial clusters.
- Attract new commercial investments along the corridor.
- Generate employment and boost infrastructure growth.
With this initiative, the Karnataka government aims to redefine urban mobility and strengthen Bengaluru’s global business image — a vital step toward making the city future-ready and economically vibrant.
