ANDHRA PRADESH NEW DISTRICTS: CABINET PANEL SUBMITS REPORT — BIG REFORMS AHEAD

Vijayawada, AP:
The Andhra Pradesh government has moved a step closer to reorganizing districts once again, as the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has completed its preliminary exercise and submitted a detailed report on forming new districts and revenue divisions.

This marks the first major administrative restructuring move after the new government assumed power.

🔹 Why Reorganization Again?

According to officials, the current state government considers the earlier reorganization of AP districts as “unscientific” and not aligned with people’s convenience. CM Naidu has reportedly directed the committee to prepare a people-centric plan, minimizing inconvenience and ensuring better governance.

🔸 Proposed New Districts (Likely)

Sources indicate that instead of earlier assumptions of 6–8 new districts, the sub-committee has recommended only three new districts at this stage:

1. Markapuram District

Carved out of parts of present Prakasam region, focusing on administrative ease for rural communities.

2. Madanapalle District

A long-pending demand from Rayalaseema, considering population density and area.

3. Polavaram District

Headquarters proposed at Rampachodavaram, covering tribal and agency areas for focused development.

🔸 New Revenue Divisions Proposed

The committee has also suggested five new revenue divisions, targeting regions with high administrative workload:

  • Nakkapalli (Anakapalli district)
  • Addanki
  • Peeleru
  • Banaganapalle
  • Madakasira

More divisions may be added after public consultations.

🔸 Capital City Update — Amaravati

In a major development, the AP Cabinet has approved the process to officially notify Amaravati as the state capital and requested the Centre to amend the AP Reorganisation Act for the same.

There is also a move to create Amaravati as a separate district, combining several Assembly segments from Guntur region.

🔸 Government Clarification

Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad has clarified that while the government is studying the issue, there is no immediate plan to completely overhaul all existing districts.
The focus currently is only on essential new districts + key revenue divisions.

🔸 What Happens Next?

  • Cabinet sub-committee report will undergo public feedback
  • A final blueprint will be prepared by late 2025
  • Implementation expected in phases starting 2026

🔸 Why These Particular New Districts?

Officials say these places were selected because of:

  • high population and area load
  • demand from local groups
  • administrative difficulty under current district boundaries
  • need for easier access to government services

🔸 Public Response

Thousands of requests were reportedly received from citizens and local leaders asking for:

  • new districts
  • name corrections
  • upgraded divisions

Some districts like Amaravati, Guduru, Palasa were discussed earlier in the public domain, but were not included in the current shortlist.

📌 SUMMARY

The Andhra Pradesh government is closer to announcing new districts, with the Cabinet Sub-Committee recommending:

🌟 Likely New Districts (3)
